A breakthrough innovation for breast reconstruction

The Lyon-based startup Healshape is developing a revolutionary bioprosthesis for women who have undergone a mastectomy due to breast cancer. Unlike traditional silicone prostheses, this device takes the form of a porous matrix made of 100% bio-based hydrogel, manufactured from algae and collagen. Acting like a flexible sponge, the prosthesis serves as a temporary, natural scaffold, allowing the patient’s cells to migrate into it to regenerate tissue before it is completely reabsorbed.

Beyond breast reconstruction, the company’s expertise in bioprinting paves the way for numerous applications in soft tissue regeneration following trauma or tumor removal. After successfully completing its preclinical phases, Healshape is poised to take a major step forward with the start of human trials scheduled for the first half of 2027. To meet the strict regulatory requirements of health authorities for CE marking or FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approval, the industrial manufacturing process is already fully established and operational.
