Healshape : Innovative Breast Reconstruction

Overview of the breast reconstruction market

The breast reconstruction market encompasses medical devices, surgical procedures, and support services associated with breast reconstruction surgery.

The global breast reconstruction market size was estimated at USD 2.16 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach USD 3.15 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 6.7% from 2025 to 2030.

Current solutions for breast reconstruction

There are currently three types of commercially available solutions for breast reconstruction:

  1.  Breast implants: These medical devices are used to reconstruct the breast after a mastectomy due to breast cancer or other medical conditions. Typically made of silicone, they can be filled with saline solution or cohesive silicone gel. Silicone gel implants are the most commonly used due to their more natural appearance and feel.
However, the main drawbacks include the risk of complications (rupture, displacement, capsular contracture) and the possibility of an immune reaction or rejection. Additionally, the aesthetic result may not always be natural
  2. Flap reconstruction surgery: This method uses vascularized tissue taken from other parts of the patient’s body (back, abdomen, or buttocks) to reconstruct the breast. Flap reconstruction offers a more natural result and autologous tissue volume without the need for an implant. However, it requires a more complex surgical procedure, a longer recovery period, and can lead to complications at the donor site, such as pain, scarring, deformities, and functional issues.
  3. Fat grafting (Lipomodelling): This technique involves transferring fat from a donor site on the patient’s body where there is excess fat. The fat is then reinjected into the breast. While this method is also autologous, 30-50% of the injected volume typically disappears, necessitating multiple donor sites on the patient and several interventions spaced 3-4 months apart to achieve satisfactory results.

Healshape’s solution

Healshape aims to revolutionize breast reconstruction by enabling the body to regenerate itself from its own cells. It has developed UR SHAPE®, a natural, personalized, and resorbable bioprosthesis. UR SHAPE® is a bioabsorbable hydrogel porous scaffold made from 100% natural, biologically sourced materials.

Its 3D-printed structure and composition create a favorable microenvironment that promotes vascularization and in situ tissue regeneration. Over time, the device is gradually absorbed and replaced by viable autologous tissue.

UR SHAPE® will address the limitations of current standard methods for all post-cancer breast reconstruction cases:

  • Reduced risk of rejection/immune reaction: The UR SHAPE® bioprosthesis contains no synthetic materials. The hydrogel structure is made from bio-sourced, biocompatible, and resorbable components, promoting cell adhesion and regeneration. This allows patient’s cells to colonize the structure before it gradually disappears.
  • Natural and consistent aesthetic results: The UR SHAPE® bioprosthesis feels natural (similar to human tissue, full of water, and soft) and provides a natural final result (allowing the woman to regain her own breast). Its shape and volume can be customized to the patient using 3D printing, offering a wide variety of shapes, anatomical forms, and even personalization (matching the healthy breast). The bioprosthesis is resorbable and degrades naturally, leaving behind the woman’s own tissue.
  • Simplified surgical procedure: The surgeon implants the bioprosthesis using a standard and well-mastered procedure similar to that for silicone breast implants. Unlike these implants, no surgery is needed to remove and replace the bioprosthesis as it resorbs after a few months. The bioprosthesis is also compatible with fat grafting. Unlike fat grafting alone, which requires numerous interventions to compensate for fat resorption, the bioprosthesis guides the patient’s cells to regenerate breast tissue.
  • Shorter recovery period: The simplicity of the UR SHAPE® surgery allows for a quick recovery while achieving a natural and autologous result.

By combining natural and personalized approaches, the UR SHAPE® bioprosthesis aligns closely with patient considerations while facilitating the work of surgeons.

UR SHAPE® marks a significant step forward in regenerative medicine and women’s health, offering a body-friendly alternsative to traditional reconstruction methods.

More broadly, Healshape aims to enable people to restore their physical integrity through the power of self-regeneration.
